SOBS the idea of kenma calling his given name and kuroo snapping out of it enough to stop from hurting him more or killing him is like....it SENDS ME because it's v much that soulbond/soulmate connection kind of trope realized in a matter of great significance and it's the KIND of thing they might not have noticed or allowed themselves to notice otherwise .
IT WORKS and it does come across! it's very clear! it makes sense to me that he wouldn't be wholly dominated by the curse outright because he's fighting it AND like you said he's using whatever smarts and instincts he can to keep his foothold mentally against it, and considering the struggle it makes sense he would be both confused and muddled!!!
